Ravens in Playoffs

With our backs against the wall, our boys set their sights on making the Bluewater Playoffs. Thursday night we were home to Tecumseh.  Our boys started off slow and Tecumseh was able to capitalize on it with 2 goals even though the play was in their end for the majority of the period.

In the 2nd, our boys were able to find their skating legs.  Austin Scratch started us off by sending a beautiful pass out front to Jake Maisonneuve who managed to find the back of the net.  Later on in the period, it was Josh Hunter who carried the puck in and hit the post before Brett Schmidt finished it off to tie up the game, 2-2.

Tecumseh took the lead once again in the 3rd with a quick goal but Christopher Spidalieri found Brett Schmidt who backhanded one past their goaltender to tie things up.  From here on in, it was Essex all the way.  All 5 players contributed to the next goal with perfect passes that eventually found Austin Scratch who passed it along to Josh Hunter to score.  Next up was Dyllon Noakes with a pass over to Hunter Hendricks who sent it over to Josh Hunter to finish it up.  Christopher Spidalieri was putting on the pressure and found himself caught up in the twines twice to declare a “Cricket in the net”!  With less, than 5 minutes left, our boys were able to sink 2 more.  Christopher Spidalieri from Austin Scratch and Jake Maisonneuve and the next one was Austin Scratch from Christopher Spidalieri and Jake Maisonneuve to finish up the game 7-3.

Saturday afternoon we faced Lasalle.  Once again, the opposing team got 1 leg up on us in the 1st to take the lead, but it was Hunter Hendricks taking a pass from Josh Hunter who tied things up with 53 seconds left in the 1st period.  The period ended 1-1.

In the 2nd, the teams were evenly matched with lots of back and forth action but it was Josh Hunter putting us in the lead, this time helped out by defenseman, Kevin Dame.  The period ended with us up 2-1.

The game was delayed at this point with several penalties.  The 3rd period barely got started and the game was called for curfew with over 13 minutes left to play, our boys skating away with a 2-1 victory.

Sunday it was Lasalle back at our arena for our final game of the regular season and a battle for 3rd place.  The game was evenly matched but it was Lasalle that got on the board first.  Our boys sustained some hard hits, including one from behind but kept battling.  The period ended with us down by 1.

The 2nd period was much of the same end to end action.  We had several chances but could not capitalize.  The period ended still down by 1.

In the 3rd, we kept the pressure on but it was Lasalle, once again, that scored.  Our goalie was pulled in the final seconds and Lasalle was able to send another 1 into the empty net to finish off the game, 3-0.

Now that the league games are all finished, we move onto the playoff round this week.  Good luck boys!
