Essex Ties up Series

Monday night we headed to Lasalle for a Bluewater game against the Sabres.  Jonathan Chippett was in net and ready to go.  The 1st period was evenly matched with action in both ends.  A few penalties were assessed to our boys, but they managed to kill them off.  The period ended 0-0

The 2nd period was much of the same.  Again, lots of end to end action with good saves by Jonathan.  Neither team could capitalize on their chances so the period ended 0-0.

Mid-way through the 3rd, Lasalle was able to get one past our goalie to put them up, 1-0.  The game continued with both teams getting their chances.  Near the end of the game, the coaches pulled Jonathan and put the extra man out.  Jake Maisonneuve sent the puck out in front of the net.  Austin Scratch shot it at the goalie and Brett Schmidt finished it off by jamming it in to tie things up with 20 seconds left on the clock.  The buzzer sounded to end the game in a 1-1 tie.

On Saturday, we headed to New Hamburg to face the Huskies in the OMHA Semi-finals.  The 1st period looked promising as both teams battled but it was Noah Lauzon sending the puck up to Brett Schmidt who carried it up the side and shot it at the net.  The puck deflected off the goalie and put us on the board.  The period ended with a 1-0 lead.

In the 2nd, we were on a power play when Brendan Quimby sent it up to Noah Lauzon who shot at the net.  Hunter Hendricks was at the ready and knocked the rebound into the net to put us up 2-0.  Suddenly, the tides turned.  The Huskies pounded our goalie, Kam Quinlan with shot after shot.  By the end of the 2nd, the Huskies were up 4-2.

The onslaught continued in the 3rd, but Kam managed to hold the scoring to only 1.  To the parent’s relief, the game ended and we headed home.

Sunday, we were back at home for game 2.  Both teams came out skating and there was lots of action around both nets.  The 1st ended in a draw, 0-0.

Our boys decided in the 2nd period that it was time to make their move.  Less than a minute in, Kevin Dame put the puck on Brett Schmidt’s stick.  Brett sent a beautiful pass out front to Andrew Lachine who shot it past the goalie and got us on the board.  Our next goal came when Austin Scratch passed the puck over to Jake Maisonneuve.  Jake set Brett Schmidt up and he found the back of the net.  The 2nd period ended with a 2-0 lead.

This time our kids were NOT going to let New Hamburg steal another game from them.  The 3rd period had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats.  Jonathan Chippett was playing outstanding in net and saved shot after shot.  With less than 2 minutes left, the Huskies lucked out and got one by Jonathan.  However, our kid’s never-say-die attitude kept them going even after the Huskies pulled their goalie.  Their teamwork paid off as they held off the opposition right down to the buzzer, winning the game 2-1.  Way to tie up the series boys!

The next game is back in New Hamburg on Friday and Essex on Saturday.  If necessary, we will be back in New Hamburg on Sunday.  Go Ravens!
