Peewee AE finish 3rd in OMHA playdowns
Submitted By sfuerth on Wednesday, May 5, 2010
The semifinal playdown series moved back to Essex this weekend for game four against the Lincoln Blades. Down 3 points to 1 in this 6 point series the Ravens came looking to even things up.

Alex Smith started things off late in the 1st period on a nice pass from Alec Robillard. The Blades scored early in the third to tie it but Jake Maisonneuve evened it up 3 minutes later with assists from Jake Watters and Clay Kraynack. At 10:10 of the third period Brett Schmidt worked hard to bring the puck up the ice and found Austin Vanderberg open who put his team up 3-2. Again, 3 minutes later Lincoln tied the game 3-3. Now into overtime, the Ravens knew they had victory in their grasp. Gigi Godard made some nice stops early in overtime and after a minute of sustained pressure around the Lincoln netminder, Captain Clay came through to seal it – 4-3 Ravens Win! The series now tied at 3 points each, these two teams faced off again in Essex on Saturday afternoon. Lincoln bounced back from the Friday night OT loss and scored the first three goals to go up 3-0. Midway through the second Bryce Diemer set up Jake W. who threaded a pass up through center ice and gave Jared Fuerth a breakaway who made no mistake and got his team on the board 3-1. Lincoln held on win this one and go up 5 points to 3 in the series. On Sunday morning, with the season on the line, the team, parents and grandparents hopped on a charter bus and headed to Lincoln for game 5. The team was ready and come out strong. Brett scored with 15 seconds left in the first on assists from Alec and Austin. The Ravens continued to outplay Lincoln for two periods and things were looking like we were heading home for a game 6. In the second Lincoln scored two quick goals 5 seconds apart to go up 2-1 but the Ravens would not give up. Brendan Jones took a pass from Jake M. and found the five hole on a nice backhand to tie the game. Lincoln finally woke up and scored the next two and went on to win the game and the series. All the coaches asked the players prior to this game was that they leave it all on the ice – and they did. Playing with injuries and illness the team showed that they were not going down without a fight and made not only the coaching staff proud but the parents, grandparents and family who made the trip. Although our goal and our cheer during the playdowns was “To The End” out of 37 teams in Ontario we finished in the top four and which is nothing to be ashamed of. Words cannot express our gratitude to coaches John Jubinville and Don Kraynack who never gave up on this team or let them give up on themselves. We now look forward to some ‘local’ hockey games as we get back into the Bluewater Playoffs to be completed by the end of March.
